Hardy Girls, Healthy Women is a Maine-based, research-driven nonprofit that has been empowering girls* with knowledge, critical thinking skills, and a platform to drive social change since 2000. They’re about changing the culture, not fixing the girl. HGHW works with 1,200+ girls annually through year-round, statewide programs. I joined the Girls Rock! Awards Event Committee last year becuase the premise of an entire night devoted to the incredible accomplishments of girls is amazing. The awards ceremony is run completely by the girls (college aged and younger) and no “adults” grace the stage, this is truly for girls, by girls. Hardy Girls' biggest fundraiser is the annual Girls* Rock! Awards. This is one awesome night of listening to girls talk about leaping over stereotypes, ignoring the haters and smashing the patriarchy. We honor six girls* who are challenging society and making changes around our state. Hardy Girls Healthy Women takes girls seriously and puts the power in their hands to challenge a society that ignores their brilliance.
